Alright, let’s talk about them kayak crab pots, eh? I ain’t no fancy fisherman, but I know a thing or two about catchin’ crabs. Used to do it with my old man, and we didn’t have no fancy kayaks back then, just a rickety ol’ boat.
So, you wanna catch some crabs from your kayak, huh? First thing’s first, you gotta get yourself some pots. Now, don’t go spendin’ a fortune. Them sporting goods stores, they’ll charge you an arm and a leg. You can find good pots for cheap if you look around. I seen ’em at garage sales and flea markets, even at the hardware store sometimes. Just make sure they ain’t all rusted out and got holes big enough for a crab to sneak out.
These crab pots, they’re like little cages, see? The crabs go in, but they can’t figure out how to get back out. It’s like a one-way door, you know? They got these funnel things, the crabs crawl in through the big end, and then they’re stuck. Smart little buggers, crabs are, but not smart enough to get out of a pot, ha!
- First, find yourself a good spot. Crabs like them shallow waters, ‘specially where there’s some grass or rocks. You gotta think like a crab, where would you hide if you was one? Maybe five to seven feet deep, that’s what I heard.
- Then, you bait your pots. Now, everyone’s got their secret bait, but I ain’t givin’ mine away! But I can tell you, smelly stuff works best. Fish heads, chicken guts, that kinda thing. The stinkier the better, that’s what I say.
- Lower your pots down real gentle-like. You don’t wanna scare the crabs away. And make sure you got a good rope, strong enough to pull them pots back up when they’re full of them crawlin’ critters.
- Leave them pots for a while. How long? Well, that depends. Sometimes a few hours, sometimes overnight. You gotta experiment, see what works best in your area.
- Now for the fun part, pullin’ up them pots! Be careful though, them crabs can pinch! And make sure you got a way to measure ’em. You gotta throw back the little ones, it’s the law. And you don’t want to mess with the law, trust me on that.
Now, about them kayaks. You gotta be careful when you’re crabbin’ from a kayak. Don’t overload your boat with too many pots, or you’ll tip right over. And always wear a life jacket, even if you think you’re a good swimmer. You never know what can happen out on the water. Safety first, that’s my motto.
And another thing, keep an eye on the weather. Them winds can kick up somethin’ fierce, and you don’t wanna get caught out in a storm. I seen it happen, and it ain’t pretty. So, check the forecast before you go, and if it looks bad, stay home. There’s always another day for crabbin’.
So, there you have it. That’s about all I know about kayak crab pots. It ain’t rocket science, just common sense. Get yourself some pots, bait ’em up good, find a good spot, and be careful. And most important of all, have fun! There ain’t nothin’ better than a mess of fresh-caught crabs, boiled up and ready to eat. Makes my mouth water just thinkin’ about it!
One last thing, don’t go blabbin’ about your secret spots, alright? Us crabbers, we like to keep them things to ourselves. Otherwise, everyone and their brother will be out there, and there won’t be no crabs left for nobody. So, keep it on the down low. Got it?
And remember, clean up after yourself. Don’t leave no trash or old bait lying around. We gotta take care of the water, it’s where them crabs come from. And it’s the right thing to do, you know. Respect the environment, I always say. Alright, I’m done talkin’ your ear off. Go get them crabs!
