Well now, if you’re lookin’ to catch one of them Chinook salmon, you gotta know a thing or two about lures. I reckon it’s all ’bout pickin’ the right colors and the right kinda bait. I’ve been fishin’ for years, and trust me, them salmon ain’t easy to fool. But if you got the right lure, you’ll be pullin’ ‘em in like nobody’s business.
Chinook salmon, or as some folks call ’em, king salmon, sure are picky about what they bite. First thing ya gotta know is that them fish can see colors just like us, but they like certain colors better. While our eyes tend to favor the greenish part of the color wheel, them fish? Well, their eyes are better at seeing blues and purples. So when you’re pickin’ out your lures, you wanna make sure you got some blue and chartreuse in the mix. That combination right there is what works best for them kings, especially when you’re fishin’ out on the big salty waters.
Now, you don’t have to take my word for it, but when I’m out fishin’ in the Puget Sound, you’ll almost always find me usin’ some blue and chartreuse. It seems to work best when the sun’s up high, but don’t go thinkin’ it’s no good on them cloudy days neither. I’ve had plenty of success even when the sky’s lookin’ all dreary and the waters are cold.
If you’re serious about gettin’ some good Chinook salmon, you might want to try out a few lures I swear by. A good ol’ Grand Slam Bucktail? That’s a fine choice. And don’t forget about the Puget Pounder Jigs, they got the right kind of weight to get down deep where them fish like to hide. There’s something ‘bout the way them jigs move that drives the salmon wild.
Another thing you might want to try is one of them Mepps lures. Them lures are good ‘cause they catch just the right amount of light, and them salmon sure can’t resist. But ya gotta be picky about the size, the color, and the way you work it. If you’re fishin’ in saltwater, make sure you’re using a lure that’s built to handle the current. No use usin’ somethin’ that’ll fall apart halfway through the day.
And if you’re lookin’ for a real treat, try out them Kodiak Custom lures. Them folks know their stuff, and their trolling spoons? Well, they’re just made for catchin’ those big ol’ Chinooks. I’ve heard folks sayin’ they cracked the code on what makes a good lure for salmon, and I reckon they’re right. You’ll get a good pull on them every time if you use the right one.
Well, now you know a bit more ‘bout Chinook salmon lures. I tell ya, it ain’t always easy, but if you pick the right lures and work ‘em right, you’ll be bringin’ in them fish left and right. Just remember to always think ’bout them colors and keep an eye on the weather—sometimes it’s the little things that make all the difference!
