Alright, let’s talk about this Lew’s Speed Spool reel, you know, the one them young folks are always yappin’ about. I ain’t no fancy fisherman, but I do know a thing or two about catchin’ fish, and a good reel is important, that’s for sure.
Now, I heard tell this here Speed Spool is supposed to be somethin’ special, lighter and faster and stronger, they say. LFS, that’s what they call it. Sounds like a bunch of hooey to me, but I’m willin’ to give it a shot. I got my hands on one, and let me tell ya, it ain’t half bad.
First off, it’s real smooth. You know, some reels, they grind and they catch, and you’re fightin’ the reel more than the fish. This one, though, it’s like butter. Smooth as a baby’s bottom, I tell ya. Makes castin’ a whole lot easier, even for an old gal like me.
- It’s got this thing called a brake, I think. Keeps the line from gettin’ all tangled up when you cast. That’s a good thing, ’cause ain’t nothin’ more frustratin’ than spendin’ half your fishin’ time untanglin’ line.
- And it’s got different speeds, or somethin’. Gear ratios, they call ’em. I don’t know much about that, but I do know you can reel in fast or slow, dependin’ on what kind of fish you’re after. That’s handy, I guess.
Now, I’ve been usin’ this reel for a while now, and I’ve caught a fair share of fish with it. Bass, mostly. Big ones, little ones, they all seem to bite just fine when I’m usin’ this reel. And that’s what matters, ain’t it? A reel ain’t no good if it don’t help you catch fish.
I even used this reel with some of them newfangled lures, the ones that look like little critters. The CrushCity somethin’-or-others. They got these little crawfish lookin’ things, and let me tell you, the bass love ’em. And this reel, well, it handles them just fine. Pulls ’em through the water real nice, makes ’em wiggle and jiggle, and that’s what gets them fish bitin’. I ain’t caught a fish on every single one of them lures, but that’s probably my fault, not the reel’s or the lure’s.
I heard tell this reel is supposed to be good for the price, too. Under a hundred dollars, they say. That’s a good deal, if you ask me. Some of them fancy reels, they cost a arm and a leg, and they don’t catch no more fish than this one. I’d rather spend my money on bait, myself.
Folks keep talkin’ about the Tournament MP Speed Spool and the Tournament Pro Speed Spool, sayin’ they’re real durable and easy to use. They also say the Tournament Pro is lightweight and versatile. Well, I ain’t tried them myself, but if they’re anything like this here Speed Spool LFS, they’re probably worth lookin’ at. This here Speed Spool, it feels plenty strong to me, and I ain’t had no trouble with it breakin’ or nothin’.
Now, I ain’t sayin’ this reel is perfect. Nothin’ is, ‘cept maybe the Lord’s creation, and even that gets a little messed up sometimes. But this here Speed Spool, it’s a good reel, a darn good reel. It’s easy to use, it’s smooth, and it helps me catch fish. And that’s all I ask for in a reel.
So, if you’re lookin’ for a new reel, and you don’t want to spend a fortune, give this Lew’s Speed Spool LFS a try. You might just like it. I know I do. And if an old gal like me can catch fish with it, you surely can too.
One more thing, make sure you clean your reel after you use it. Don’t just throw it in the shed and forget about it. Take care of your tools, and they’ll take care of you. That’s what my pappy always said, and he was a wise old man, even if he didn’t know nothin’ about no fancy fishin’ reels.
Alright, I think that’s about all I got to say about this here reel. Now, if you’ll excuse me, I got some fishin’ to do. Them bass ain’t gonna catch themselves, you know.
