Well, let me tell ya, fishing in Sturgeon Bay, that’s somethin’ else. Folks been askin’ me what’s bitin’, so I figured I’d spill the beans, you know, give ya the lowdown.
Fishin’ Up North
Now, up north, near them places like Little Sturgeon, Riley’s Bay, and Sand Bay, them smallmouth bass, they’re somethin’ fierce. Big ones, too, trophy-sized they call ’em. Guess the fishin’ up there is the best right now. Folks are pullin’ ’em in left and right. Don’t know what them fish are eatin’, but they sure are hungry.
The Howie’s Report and Them Others
Heard tell of some report, Howie’s Tackle somethin’ or other. Says it tells ya where to go fishin’ on Green Bay and that big lake, Michigan. Never been much for readin’ them reports myself, but some folks swear by ’em. They say it tells ya where the fish are bitin’, what the water’s like, even the weather. Me? I just go where the wind takes me, but hey, if it helps ya, it helps ya. There’s other reports too, they say what’s bitin’ in July, or June, or even last year. Folks keep track of these things, I guess. More power to ’em.
- Walleye Tips
- Find them weed beds, you know, where the plants grow thick.
- Use a little jig, they say 1/32 to 1/16 ounce, whatever that means.
- Put a leech or a nightcrawler on it, that’s what the fish like.
- Be quiet, don’t go stompin’ around like a bull in a china shop.
- Use a light line, 4 to 6 pound test, they say. Keeps them fish from gettin’ spooked.
Charter Fishin’ and Salmon
Some folks, they don’t like fishin’ on their own. They go on them charter boats, like that Salmon Depot one out of Sturgeon Bay. Guess they know where the fish are, and they take ya right to ’em. Never done it myself, but I seen folks comin’ back with buckets full of fish. Salmon, mostly, I reckon. Big ol’ things, silver and shiny. They say they put up a good fight, too. More fun than catchin’ them little perch, that’s for sure.
Findin’ Your Own Spot
Now, me, I like findin’ my own fishin’ spots. That’s half the fun of it, ain’t it? Just wanderin’ around, lookin’ for a likely place. Sometimes you find a good spot before you can even mark it on your map, or whatever them fancy gadgets folks use these days. I just use my compass, always have. Keeps ya from gettin’ lost, too. And when you find a good spot, you keep it to yourself, you know? Don’t want everyone and their brother fishin’ in your honey hole.
Keepin’ it Simple
Fishin’ ain’t rocket science, ya know. Just gotta be patient, and a little bit lucky. Use the right bait, find a good spot, and keep your line in the water. That’s all there is to it. Don’t need no fancy equipment, no fancy reports. Just a rod, some line, and a hook. And maybe a little somethin’ to keep the skeeters away. Them things can be a real nuisance.
So, What’s Bitin’ Now?
Well, like I said, them smallmouth bass up north are doin’ good. Walleye are bitin’ in the weed beds, if you know how to catch ’em. And them salmon, they’re always out there somewhere, if you can find ’em. But honestly, any fish is a good fish, as long as you’re havin’ fun. That’s what fishin’s all about, ain’t it? Gettin’ outdoors, enjoyin’ the fresh air, and maybe catchin’ a few fish to boot. So get yourself out there and wet a line. You might just surprise yourself.
Last Words
Remember, fishin’ is supposed to be fun. Don’t get all stressed out about it. Just relax, enjoy the scenery, and see what happens. And if you don’t catch anything, well, there’s always next time. That’s what I always say, anyway. Now, go on and get fishin’!
Sturgeon Bay Fishing Report July 2024 Summary
So, to sum it all up for ya, the fishin’ in Sturgeon Bay is pretty darn good right now. Smallmouth bass are hot up north, walleye are hidin’ in the weeds, and salmon are out there deep. Use the right bait, be patient, and have fun. And maybe check out them fishin’ reports if you’re into that sort of thing. But most importantly, just get out there and enjoy the fishin’!
