Alright, let’s gab about this Waldo Lake in Oregon, you know, the fishin’ place. I heard folks sayin’ it’s up high somewhere on them Cascade mountains, real pretty-like.
Now, I ain’t no fancy fisherman, but I know a thing or two about catchin’ fish. This lake, they say it’s got plenty of salmon and trout. Salmon and trout, that’s good eatin’, y’all! Heard tell it’s real popular for fishin’ ’cause of them fish and ’cause it’s just so darn purdy to look at.
But hold your horses, you can’t just go throwin’ your line in anytime you want. You gotta listen to them Fish and Wildlife fellas. They got rules and seasons and such. Gotta get yourself a license too, like gettin’ a driver’s license but for fishin’. You can find all that stuff on their website, they say. Me? I just ask my grandson, he’s good with them computer things.
Waldo Lake, they say it’s near some place called Four Corners. Don’t know much about that, but I know about fishin’. They got somethin’ called a Fishin’ Forecast too. Sounds fancy, huh? It tells you when the fishin’ is good, I reckon. You can even change the dates on it, up to 10 days they say. But you gotta be one of them Pro fellas to do that, pay extra money I guess.
- Fishin’ spots? Well, they got maps for that. And folks write down where they caught fish, like secret diaries but for fishin’. That helps you know what kinda fish are swimmin’ around and what they like to eat. Smart, ain’t it?
- They talk about baits too. Baits is what you put on your hook to trick the fish. Worms, little fishy lookin’ things, all sorts of stuff.
Now, this lake ain’t no puddle. It’s deep, real deep. Deeper than most places, except for that Crater Lake place. Waldo Lake’s the second deepest in the whole state, they say. One hundred and twenty-eight feet deep on average, and even deeper in some spots. That’s a lot of water, enough to hide a whole heap of fish!
And if you wanna stay a while, they got places to camp. Three campgrounds they say, with lots of spots for your tent. And if you’re feelin’ adventurous, there’s even some wild spots, no designated nothin’, just you and the trees and the fish. But, uh oh, hold on a minute! I heard tell there was a fire, Cedar Creek Fire they called it. Closed the whole darn wilderness down in August of 2022. So, you gotta check if it’s open again before you go traipsin’ up there.
So, Waldo Lake, fishin’, campin’, pretty scenery. Sounds like a good time, if you ask me. Just remember them rules, get your license, and watch out for them fires. And don’t forget your bug spray, them skeeters can be fierce!
Fishin’ ain’t just about catchin’ fish, you know. It’s about bein’ outdoors, breathin’ fresh air, and enjoyin’ the quiet. It’s about gettin’ away from all the hustle and bustle and just bein’ at peace. And if you catch a fish or two, well, that’s just a bonus. And for an old woman like me, a good fish fry sounds better than any fancy restuarant! So, go on, give Waldo Lake a try. You might just like it.
But remember, be respectful of nature, don’t leave your trash around, and don’t go makin’ a ruckus. We gotta keep these places nice for everyone to enjoy, for our youngins and our youngins’ youngins. That’s how I see things, anyway.
